What type of compressor is best for your business? Part 2/3

Wait-there’s more than one type of compressor? There are many different types of compressors, and they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Over the next few weeks ACS will be highlighting the three most common compressor types, stay tuned for more!

Rotary Screw Type Compressors

Rotary screw compressors run continuously, and produce a steady supply of air at a constant rate. Screw compressors are great for applications where a constant supply of air is needed at all times. However, this is not always the most efficient means of air production. If demand decreases, the compressor will continue to produce air that is not needed, which drives up the power bill. Often, a screw compressor is used in conjunction with a piston type compressor. The screw compressor provides the base amount of air needed, and a piston compressor kicks on when air demand exceeds what the screw compressor uses. This is very efficient arrangement. Rotary screw compressors can also be fitted with a variable speed drive and motor, which vastly improves efficiency and may remove the need for a piston compressor entirely. Rotary screw compressors start at 5 Horsepower and go up into the hundreds from there. To see if a rotary screw compressor is right for your business, call us at 888-846-5101 today!
